You may have noticed marks like the one in this photo on walls and buildings, and wondered what they are. They are benchmarks, which used to be used by the Ordnance Survey in their mapping work around the country. There are quite a number within Scarning with many more in Dereham, and their locations can be found on the OS Benchmark Archive website.
