DEREHAM & DISTRICT TANGENT – “Good friends, good times, good causes”.
Dereham & District Tangent members have been very busy over the past three months.
In April we held our AGM at the King’s Head, North Elmham, which was attended by 26 members. After a lovely meal Chairman Yvonne Wilson gave her report, followed by reports from outgoing secretary, Heather Wood and outgoing treasurer, Janice Parsons. Those present welcomed Steph McAusland as the new secretary & Julie Rowlatt as treasurer.
Since the April meeting, we had a rather chilly May gathering at Castle Acre, followed by an equally chilly evening for clay pigeon shooting, which took place just outside Swaffham.
We were somewhat luckier in June, when we tried walking hockey at Dereham Hockey Club. Some of us hadn’t played hockey since school, some ladies had never played before, but you would never have known as they weaved their way through the opposition! Thanks you to Paula Turner for organising the event & the weather.
Our August meeting will be our annual summer barbecue.
We now have two meetings per month; the first Wednesday in the month is an evening meeting, with the second being held on a Wednesday afternoon two weeks later. This is more of a tea, cake and natter gathering, which also gives us a chance to meet up should we have missed the evening meeting earlier in the month. Our programme is decided by the membership and we try to keep it as varied as possible. Coming up we have the summer barbecue, Norwich ghost walk, carpet bowling, speaker meeting in November which will be attended by our Tangent National President and of course our Christmas meal.
We are part of the National Association of Tangent Clubs www.tangent-clubs.org where you can find more information about what Tangent is and what we do. All Clubs are different but have the common link of fun and friendship. As a Club, we have recently donated £50 to Round Table Children’s Wish. We also support local charities when we can, such as Leeway & Dereham Foodbank.
