The Parish Council has nine councillors and looks after the interests of the parish and its inhabitants. It has many functions, but broadly speaking is responsible for the provision and maintenance of the children's play areas on the Water Meadows, the installation of play equipment on the Village Playing Field, the maintenance of the roadside verges and hedges in some parts of the parish, the provision of dog and litter bins, the maintenance of some street lights, the production and distribution of the village newsletter, the maintenance of the church clock and the war memorial, and the repair and upkeep of bus shelters in the parish. The Parish Council's Precept for the current financial year is £30,000.
Scarning Parish Council meetings are open to the public and are held at 7.30pm in the Village Hall on the third Monday of every second month (beginning in January). Everyone is welcome to attend Parish Council meetings, where there is always a chance for members of the public to ask questions or raise matters of concern. If you can't get to a meeting, contact any of the councillors, or the clerk, who can raise the issue on your behalf.
