Can you help please? Trying to trace the relatives of three local heroes.
On 2 January 1945, a Mosquito took off from RAF Swanton Morley and crashed a few minutes later into a field at Broadway Farm, Scarning. The pilot and navigator were saved by three local men who risked their own lives to pull them from the wreckage as ammunition exploded all around them.
The men were Walter William Ward of Washbridge, Dereham, James Andrews of Council Houses, Scarning and Herbert George Farrow of Broadway Farm, Scarning. They received the British Empire Medal in recognition of their bravery.
The RAF 100 (Bomber Support) Group is trying to find people who are related to Walter, George or Herbert.
There is to be a Memorial and Reunion Service for the 100 Group on 17 May and the organisers would like to invite relatives of the men to attend. The Group is also planning to feature the rescue in an exhibition at the City of Norwich Aviation Museum.
