DEREHAM & DISTRICT TANGENT – “Good friends, good times, good causes”.

Dereham & District Tangent members have been busy once more over the past few weeks.

For those of you reading this, and not aware of who we are, Dereham Tangent is just one club of many clubs, who belong to the National Association of Tangent Clubs. We are scattered far and wide, reaching up to Scotland, down to Cornwall and across the sea to Northern Ireland. As a Club, we organise our own programmes, which we try to vary as much as possible so there is something of interest to all members. Several of us were members of Ladies Circle but we now have ‘open’ membership for any lady interested in joining.

In mid-July six members attended the Tangent National President’s charity lunch at The Mill in Sonning. It was a wonderful day enjoyed by over 100 ladies, where not only did we have a prosecco reception and a very tasty lunch, we were entertained in the Mill’s theatre by a production of Gypsy the Musical.

On the local side of our events, we have had two mid-month afternoon meetings – in July at the Lemon & Rosemary Yard in Elsing and in August at a member’s home where we enjoyed some lovely homemade cakes! Our main August meeting was our annual barbecue, kindly hosted by Helen and Graham Howe.

Also in August Jane Bizley & Gail Kevern took on the Alzheimer’s Society Trek 13 Challenge in Bakewell. With much training under their belts, they were prepared for the ups and downs which Derbyshire would bring over the 13 miles they would be walking. The day’s weather was thankfully mainly dry and the camaraderie between those taking part was second to none. Between Jane & Gail they raised £1660.

On the National front, Jane Bizley, as a member of the Tangent National Executive, along with her husband, attended the 41 Club President’s Ball in Cardiff and the walking weekend in Alcester. Both were great events, albeit very different, with a great mix of people attending. Next year’s walking weekend will be organised by Stuart Bizley and based around the King’s Lynn & Hunstanton area, joined by 41 Club & Tangent members from around the country.

To find out more information about the National Association of Tangent Clubs go to www.tangent-clubs.org.  All Clubs are different but have the common link of fun and friendship. As a Club, we have a varied programme, with many different ideas coming from our members over the year. We also support local charities when we can, such as Leeway & Dereham Foodbank.
