Breckland Council, working in partnership with Dereham Town Council, Norfolk County Council, local community groups and Serco, have revealed more plans for the March spring clean in Dereham. The partnership has announced that street bench repairs have been commissioned, whilst town centre bus stops are deep cleaned, all funded by Dereham Town Council. Norfolk County Council will be allocating £5000 to help fund lamp post repainting in the town centre. The aim of the project, which is also supported by Breckland Council Market Town Initiative, is to make the town more attractive for residents and tourists and encourage people to use the local high street.

Other activities planned during March to improve the town centre will include street bollards straightened, public bins repainted, and a broken bike rack repaired. Serco will be conducting additional footpath sweeping and tackling illegal fly posting in the area.

On 17 March Breckland Council are encouraging new volunteers to join Dereham Community Litter Pickers at either Dereham Recreation Ground/skate park (between station road and London Road) and Toftwood recreation ground (at the end of recreation road, just off Hillcrest Avenue) at 11.30 a.m. Litter pick equipment will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to wear sensible shoes. The litter pick will run for approximately 1 hour and will be led by Dereham Community Litter Pickers with Breckland Council support.

Cllr Hugh King, Mayor of Dereham Town Council commented: “”Dereham is a wonderful place to live and work. I am truly delighted to see this partnership come together to ensure Dereham looks it’s very best in 2023 and especially for the coronation of King Charles III in May.”

Cllr Paul Claussen, Executive Member for Economic Development and Growth at Breckland Council, commented: ” We are committed to supporting our high streets,  ensuring residents and visitors have an enjoyable experience and businesses can thrive. I would like to thank our local government partners and community groups for helping to make our community safer, cleaner and more attractive.”
