Support to quit smoking – SmokeFree app in Norfolk campaign launched
Members are asked to raise awareness of the Smokefree app among adult smokers in Norfolk and encourage its use as a stop smoking support option.
Norfolk County Council Public Health has commissioned the official Smokefree app for Norfolk smokers aged 18 and over. The app is a free, 24/7 digital smoking cessation service that helps users set and achieve quit dates. A campaign to promote the app was launched in Norfolk on 9 March.
In Norfolk, 12.2% of adults smoke (around 92,700 people). Smoking costs the county an estimated £757m per year and has significant impacts on health, household finances and local healthcare systems (ASH digital resource).
The app is clinically proven to double people’s chances of quitting, is delivered by a team of experts, meets stringent data security standards, and has received multiple accolades and five star reviews. Full features are available free to Norfolk residents through commissioning by Norfolk County Council. The app includes:
- Peer support via community chat
- Goal setting, guidance and advice
- 24/7 expert support from human advisors
- Finance and health improvement tracking
- Smoking cessation medications and nicotine replacement therapies delivered directly to users by Royal Mail
