Festive songs will ring around Dereham’s St Nicholas Church when it hosts a carol service. The town’s parish church will open its doors for the service at 6pm on Sunday, December 17, with everyone welcome to join in.
A rehearsal will run before the service from 2.30pm-4.30pm, followed by tea and refreshments in the church house next door from 4.30pm-5.30pm. The carols to be sung will be On Christmas Night and The Angels Carol.
A spokesman said: “Both have simple unison melody parts for those who cannot read music and also choral harmony parts for those who do. There will also be plenty of congregational carols and opportunities to sing the now traditional descants by David Willcocks to O Come all ye Faithful and Hark the Herald and maybe Once in Royal David’s City. Our rector is planning this to be a ‘bumper’ carol service for the town, and is in expectation of a large attendance. The town band will also be playing some items.”
